Irish Exit
Museum Curation and Installation, Web Development, Branding, 2025.
Irish Exit
is a collaborative show featuring Bethany Hwang, Morgan
Nash, Helena Starzec, and Suanna Zhong. After sharing an attic
studio space during the summer, the four found a common interest in
meditating on moments past. This show focuses on the emptied rooms,
vacant scenes, and silhouettes of life. With the intention of
drawing the viewer's eyes to the presence of absence, Irish Exit is
in memoriam of times gone by. We are lingering in the doorway before
leaving without a proper goodbye.
Since the exhibition only lasted for four days, I created a simple website and a brochure to immortalize it.
Timeline: 6 weeks
Typeface Pairing:
An Irish Exit is a quiet goodbye. Thus, I wanted to choose a typeface that felt peaceful, patient, but still had personality. Another challenge was to find a typeface that was bold without distracting from the art pieces.
Oddity Script has very striking design traits. To contrast the bold curves, I opted for Bookmania Light for the body. The combination of muted and saturated colors were taken from the pieces in the gallery.
Slow Scroll:
The slow movement and change in opacity encourages the user to slowly digest the information on the website. I experiented with different ease timings and decided on 3 seconds.
Brochure:
I designed the brochures to be printed on 8.5 x 11 paper. The accordian brochure fits easily in the hand and also folds up to reveal our individual artist statements.
We decided to not label our works in the gallery so I added a map on the back to guide the viewer. The colors of the circles correspond with the dominant colors of the pieces.
